I was at the 6th. Std., 1963. My father U Aung Min, Dr Than Win’s father Rector U Than Tun, Dr Than Win (in Scout uniform) and I were there. I think (Father) Director Brother Phillip was the Headmaster and the prizes were given by the District Education Officer. Our PT teacher Saya David was seen with the gymnastist. My friend Dr. Michael Wan (son of former Yae Khae Taung/Ice mountain soft drinks factory manager) now in US is also in the photo. My brother Ko Ko Htay was also in the another group photo of First Aid team.

    Dr Rahman,

In the 60s B & W photos showed that Burma was no difference from
the school days of Malaysia, after all both countries had been ruled by
    the Bristish. Regards,
    Your friend

    TQ, my dear friend.
Now that St. Peters High School was nationalized in a couple of years after that time, Missionary brothers and sisters kicked out from the country. In Malaysia, treatment on them is better.
English Grammer by Wren and Martin, High School/Final Course which we learnt in 6 Std in Mission school was repeated in Matriculation and 1 st MBBS (equal to GCE A level).
We learnt all subjects in English except Burmese Literature at those good old days in missionary schools. (Strangely, Burmese teacher try to explain the difficult words and pharases in ENGLISH to us).
Military gov. forced to change Burmese to become the teaching media , like here, with the narrow NATIONALISTIST SPIRIT. So all taught in Burmese. Later they even radically start to teach English alphabets in secondary school.
Now they changed again and are teaching Science and Maths in English. I hope that they will overtake Malaysia as they are backtracking that English teaching.

Thank you for these photos. I wonder if you could post any old photos of St Peter’s school as my father who is 90 years old attended it. He now resides in Australia and I am making a scrap book of memories with sites from Mandalay for him. Much thanks and anticipation for any help you may be able to render.
