This was OUR time in Kalaw Southern Shan State of Burma during late 50’s and early 60’s. There was no TV, Video, Recorder, CD, VCD, Internet, Mobile phone, very rare almost luxurious fixed telephone lines…this View-Master my father bought for us was a wonder for us.View-Master is the trademark name of a line of special-format stereoscopes and corresponding View-Master “reels”, which are thin cardboard disks containing seven stereoscopic 3-D pairs of small color photographs on film.
Apart from movies at cinemas where we went and see once in few months, we sit around the fireplace (quite cold so we need to have a fire place for about 9 months per year).
We have to wait and listen the BBS radio broadcasts of Sein Aung Min, Shwe Man Tin Maung and modern plays.

My brother Dr. Nay Aung Kyaw wrote on my FB. And these view masters are 3D viewer , quite futuristic and advanced for that period. I used to possess the Rocket photos and John Glens first orbit of this earth.

At that time we were staying at Nat Sin Road, Kalaw and I used to look at the Lawpita electric tower building on a hill and imagine as a “ROCKET”. At that time Yuri Gagarin a Russian astronaut was the first human to journey into outer space, with the Vostok spacecraft on 12 April 1961. (I alway remember that date because it is the Thingyan eve ). I had a small note book where I wrote down all the Russian and American astronauts. I am proud that I have that habit when I was just only 11 year old. (My DOB is 5th. April 1950)

By the way, that small note book was not my first. When I was staying with my grandma, Daw Daw Kyawt at 29 th. street (my birth place) between 82/83 street, before going to Kg, may be at the age of 4 yrs, I had a small note book where I copy all the sign posts written in Burmese, English and Chinese. (I just copy and wrote without understanding or able to read).

Since very young, I saw the interior of the table clock and childishly imaginary and trying to figure out the digestive system of human. Because adults used the words digestion in Burmese, Asar Chae, I thought that there were grinding machines in my body. My grandma’s brothers were staying and operating the Singer Suing Machine Repair Shop, may influence my mind. And may be the sound of wind in my tummy made me think that there were machines in my tummy.
