Now she is still acting the political POPULAR play to be loved by the ignorant mass who are brainwashed to become ultra-nationalists. Instead of leading the people from wrong to right, she played to the gallery.

I am telling about Zat Thama gyi. She was acting to please the Military and Chinese and NOT for the people. So she tricked the people that if she wish to please them she would play ZAT. She bluffed that as a politician she could not just play the popular politics people like.

To perform in a manner that will get the strong approval of the audience; to perform in a manner that will get the approval of the lower elements in the audience.

Example: John is a competent actor, but he has a tendency to play to the crowd. When he made the rude remark, he was just playing to the gallery.
