I am as outraged and saddened by the news of the #Burmese military executing summarily the Burmese journalist and former bodyguard of Aung San Suu Kyi.
However, a widely publicized strong denunciation and other forms of reaction from Burma’s “human rights defenders”, including the celebrated dissidents, makes me shake my head.
The military shot and killed one Burmese they knew and they gather, they howl, they protest and they unveil threats to do more to bring the army killers to justice.
But none of these howling ‘human rights defenders’ – not a single one I am aware of – would stand up for the simmering murder and genocide of more than 1 million Rohingya.
I was about to write something like this. Not a single outcry yet(?) fr. ‘mainstream human rights defenders in Burma’ on the murder of, for instance, Rohingya religious leader in Maungdaw, Arakan state needless to say on all other forms of persecution against Rohingya. While I applaud many of mainstream defenders’ work, I also shame on them upholding double standard & racism or Islamophobia. Hypocritic. Hypocritic. Here is note by Maung Zarni. Can’t agree with it anymore. :
