A class above, the heaven-born By Maung Zarni
Part 1: Evolution of a mafia state
Part 2: Fascist roots, rewritten histories
Military-controlled regimes in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, have gone through various incarnations since General Ne Win‘s initial military takeover of 1962. With a favorable ideological climate, intellectual and academic justification, political and diplomatic recognition, and strong Western material support, the stage was set for Ne Win’s military, the Tatmadaw, to tread its chosen path without accountability – a course it has maintained to the present.

As Kaman villages burned and 94-year old Kama lady stabbed multiply to death by the good “Buddhists” of new Myanmar, I have ordered a pizza for Aung San Suu Kyi and the NLD CEC. Here is my conversation, imagined, with the Pizza Hut in Yangon (I hope Pizza Hut opens and brings Western civilization with it for the Burmese dissidents who still need to learn to eat Pizza and internalize human rights and compassion).

Compassionate letter 12,“The End of the Saga”
Dear Nan,
If you could remember, I sent my first letter on our wedding anniversary, that is 12th February (our National day commemorating forming the foundation of our union, the day we signed our matrimonial agreement at Panglon) and that is also your birthday, the Shan National day. And coincidently that is two day’s prior to the Valentine day, the day of lovers. And I wrote the letter to you because your father announced our divorce declaration that is the Shan leaders announcement of the separation from Burma/Myanmar and the forming of an Independent Shan Country.
And another strange coincidence that leads to my compassionate letters was because of a DVD of Sai Kham Leik/Sai Hti Sai’s songs sent by my brother. While I was enjoying my renaissance or daydreaming back the good old young era, my children keep on doing their daily routine even without noticing my favourite songs. So I decided to explain or translate the songs to them. And the rest is the minute history of a saga of these compassionate letters to my ‘estranged wife’.

Compassionate letter No 1: A Valentine Music DVD with Love for Dear Nan
First published in Burma Digest and later reprint in my San Oo Aung blog with my Pseudonym, Bo Aung Din
I know you were angry with my step mother, Daw Than Shwe for bribing the local authorities to put your uncles including U Khun Tun Oo behind bars. When you decided to go and stay with your father, I was not worried much. I believed that you already knew how much I love your uncle Khun, may be even more than you. Although he was your uncle he always treated me like his own younger brother and as you know, he was the one who introduced me to you. I tried my best but could not get him released immediately yet.

Be careful Daw Aung San Suu Kyi if you ever intend to go abroad.
Because Myanmar Foreign Minister and Myanmar Home Minister and their staff are all STUPID IGNORANT of INTERNATIONAL LAWS and MYANMAR CRIMINAL LAWS, they will disturb you.
Even if you have magical powers to bring back your late father alive abroad, they will still disturb you and your father, General Aung San, because your father General Aung San is the brother-in-law of the notorious Communist rebel leader Thakin Than Tun.
So, if you intend to go abroad, please bring along the exemption orders from U Thein Sein, U Shwe Man and Sr Gen Min Aung Hlaing to override the stupid officials’ possible disturbances by the Myanmar Embassy in Malaysia.

A NEW BURMA DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT
By Roland Watson August 3, 2013
The failure of the pro-democracy movement
I’ll begin with an obituary. The Burma pro-democracy movement is dead.
Of course, some people might disagree. Instead, they might say that it is
“over.” The Burma democracy movement isn’t dead, it’s just over, because
it succeeded. Burma is now free and democratic.

A modern-day hell hound at large! 05 May 2013 21:01, Written by Nay Tun Naing

(1)
In 1936, student leader Aung San (independence architect General Aung San) featured an article titled ‘A hell hound at large’ in Ohway Magazine when he was editor in charge of the magazine.
The article angered the British authorities of the Rangoon University (now Yangon University). Aung San was expelled from university as he was accountable for the article written by student Nyo Mya under the pseudonym ‘Yama Min’ (King of Hell), sparking a nation-wide students’ movement.
