The Vicious Cycle of Extreme Nationalism By C

Following the wave of anti-Muslim violence that swept through parts of central Burma late last month, 88 Generation leaders came forward with an important statement. At a press conference on March 29, Min Ko Naing said it was “very clear” that the riots did not represent a communal conflict between Buddhists and Muslims, but that they were instigated by “well-trained terrorists.”

Ultranationalism or မ်က္ကန္းမ်ဳိးခ်စ္

April 29, 2012

Ultranationalism is a zealous nationalism that expresses extremist support for one’s nationalist ideals.

It is often characterized by:

  1. authoritarianism,
  2. efforts toward reduction or stoppage of immigration,
  3. expulsion and or oppression of non-native populations within the nation or its territories,
  4. demagoguery of leadership,
  5. emotionalism,
  6. fomenting talk of presumed, real, or imagined enemies,
  7. predicating the existence of threats to the survival of the native, dominant or otherwise idealized national ethnicity or population group,
  8. In its extremist forms ultranationalism is characterized as a call to war against enemies of the nation/state, secession or, in the case of ethnocentrist ultranationalism, genocide.

The resistance of Bosnia and the refugees in KL

March 24, 2012

I was at the KL airport as the PERKIM Medical Officer to wait for the arrival of Bosnia Muslims. I have been to their camp cum flats in Seri Kembangan (just outside KL) once almost every week to treat the Bosnia refugees. I had tried for few of the Bosnian doctors to get job as Research Officers to bypass or circumvent the MMC because their Medical degrees are not recognized here.
