Burma’s politics can be summed up as ‘neo-Feudal gangsterism’.

I am distilling what I know in all these years doing and studying the country’s affairs:

1) the discourses of nation-building, nationalism, patriotism conceal the fundamentally mafia-like political economy where various stakeholders in Burma slice the pie.

2) who are the stakeholders?

a) the generals, b) retired generals, c) the strategically placed state military and ex-military managers, d) multi-billion dollar narcotics and smuggling networks (Kokant, Wa, Chinese, etc), e) crony-front-men, f) powerful armed ethnic leaders, g) international and regional money launderers and last but not least, h) international and regional corporate interests.

General Ne Win’s Agent Provocateurs before massacring at anti-Chinese Riots

In 1967, Latha Secondary School was torched by the henchmen of Ne Win’s government, where school girls were burnt alive. Similarly, Chinese shops were looted and set on fire. Public attention was successfully diverted by Ne Win from the uncontrollable inflation, scarcity of consumer items and rising prices of rice.

မ်က္ကန္းမ်ဳိးခ်စ္ or Ultranationalists

I just learnt about 100 sentences of Cantonese Chinese to help me effectively communicate with my patients. I was shocked to learn that even in that very limited 100 sentences, there are HUNDREDS of Chinese words similar in sounding as well as meaning with Myanmar words.

Yes we all know that both Chinese and Myanmar language are from the Tibeto-Burman/Tibeto-Chinese language group.
