Myanmar is doubly ill-served by the PhDs, home-made or acquired at ‘the big universities‘ in the West.

On one hand, Made-in-De-din (i.e., Myanmar) Doctors are a joke of a new genre who now fill university departments.

On the other hand, the PhDs who were Made-in-the West (and the rest such as Japan) now populate Naypyidaw, Myanmar’s new capital of sociopaths and psychopaths in various disguises.

My sincere advice to Myanmar MOH and Government: Don’t be too scared to send your staff especially post-graduate doctors and trained nurses in specific fields. If there is a G to G arrangement it is much easier to get a training post abroad. Take the necessary guarantee money or land titles as deposits. Just send as many junior experts for training abroad with G to G agreements.

Yes, Tun Dr. Mahathir, you are absolutely right in saying, “Muslims in the country should be concerned about the plight of those in need of assistance to avoid the possibility of a deviation in their faith. If no one looks after them and they are in difficulty, they may become attracted to those who offer them aid.”

Whither medical excellence for Myanmar?

Burma‘s BSPP Ne Win‘s government had destroyed the Burmese Medical training with the almost freezing of the Post-graduate Medical Education. After every few years they would send one group of few (less than half dozen) post graduate training doctors abroad. That was dictated by not depending to the needs of the country but the cronies and children of the top leaders.
