Burma/Myanmar’s radical “969 movement” has been central in the recent brutal pogroms against minority Muslims that have left at least 40 dead and 12,000 displaced. The Buddhist monk-led group, however, cannot be understood outside of the interface between President Thein Sein‘s government and the country’s racist society at large.

 Over the past year the western media has rightly exposed Myanmar’s 969 and its leading spokesperson Wirathu for what they are: a state-backed neo-Nazi ideological campaign and a Hitlerite demagogue with substantial following among the tradition-bound Buddhist masse in Myanmar.

It’s official now! The new Myanmar has a Nazi party and its reps are sitting in the Parliament.
