YANGON: Myanmar has reacted angrily to a Time magazine cover story on a prominent radical monk accused of fuelling anti-Muslim violence, accompanied by the headline “The Face of Buddhist Terror”.

Oakkan:    : It is reported that the woman who accidently bumped into a novice monk causing him to break the lid of his alms bowl in last April, was sentenced 2 years in jail.

Ma Win Win Sein from Pa Ni Pin village, Oakkan and a woman accompanied her were charged by Oakkan police station under article 295/295(A). On June 5 2013, they were sentenced to 2 year hard labour at Taik Gyi Township court.

Last week, I talked to a Muslim man in a southern state of Myanmar who ended up at an event related to the 969 movement in early April.

He was standing at a betel shop with a few other Buddhists. One person told them to join him towards the monastery where a 969 sermon was talking place. As he does not look like a typical Muslim man, he was mistaken to be a Buddhist. He was not sure of himself why he joined the group.

A wave of murderous anti-Muslim riots led by Buddhist extremists had exploded earlier that day in the dusty town with a population of 100,000 people, located 130km north of the capital, Nay Pyi Taw. Like the houses of many other Muslims in the town, the one belonging to Mon Hnin, whose name has been changed for security reasons, had been destroyed by a Buddhist mob in the Mingalar Zay Yone quarter and she and her relatives had to take refuge in the first place they could find.

In Kyaike Htoo, after the preaching ceremony on March 8 2013, chairs from some Muslim shops were broken by anarchists.

It is reported that “969” members destroyed the chairs from Muslim shops after last night’s sermon. Such hate crimes happened not only in Kyaike Htoo but also in some other major cities in Mon State. Last 3 days ago, similar incident occurred in Bee Lin, Mon State.
